Security Update November 2011

We have had two more reports of burglaries in our complex.  One near Pentz drive opposite the police station, where access was gain through the patio door and security door. The break-in is believed to have occurred on Tuesday night  or early Wednesday 08-09-November. The police were called in and the investigation is underway.  The other reported break-in occurred at an end unit on the Donkin road side of the complex.  In this case, the burglars broke through the Kitchen door and security door.

The Table View Police will be talking to the Trustees about this spate of burglaries on 16-Nov-11. We have also invited Star Armed Response to this meeting. It is our intention to gain as much information as possible. We will pass on information gained via our blog.

By now owners should have realised that we need to take actions to enhance the security of our units. To owners not living in the complex, please pass on this information to your tenants.

  1. Hi Steve,

I have a suggestion that might not be welcomed by others. We as owners/tenants should organize our own patrols. I know it is a burden and will take a lot of time and sacrifices but if we make turns on guarding the premises at night I think it will be of great help. There is a problem in this as well as we will have to be at least persons at a time not to endanger our own lifes.

With that people will have to advise the "guards" of the times they will not be at home.

We also suggested a few years ago security access at the entrances (boom gates ect" Maybe we should talk about again even if it means a once off special levy

    Kind regards

  2. Hi Andre
Thanks for taking the time to comment on the blog. A neighbour hood watch is a good idea. I have considered it myself. To get one going, we would need to call a special meeting of residents to gain agreement - we could then decide which team does which patrol etc. I would like to hear what the police have to say first though.

We have discussed access control on many occasions including AGM's but we always come back to the following issues:
◘ The cost of fencing and gating units 42 - 50 will be considerably higher than the four driveways. which causes argument about participation funding.
◘ All the post boxes will have to be on the outside perimeter fence. There are those who don't want this.
◘ There is the issue of dustbins on Thursdays which sparks more discussion

Finally there is the Sectional Title Act requirement that 75% of all owners need to agree to the project and the levy collection. It is no-longer permissibility to raise a special levy without a general meeting.

    Kind regards
    Steve
